Future Microbiology journal has published an article by Dr Antonio Guglietta entitled Recurrent urinary tract infections in women: risk factors, etiology, pathogenesis and prophylaxis. This article reviews the role of non-pharmacological alternatives which act as mechanical protective barriers on the intestinal mucosa, preventing the adhesion of uropathogenic bacteria and their subsequent proliferation and migration in the urinary tract.
